Personality
Nora Whitlock is often described as a “quiet but kind,” individual by her classmates. While she can be difficult to get to know, due to her rarely initiating social interactions with those that she doesn’t already know, she has been trying to change since entering university and beginning the next step of her life towards her goals of eventually one day becoming a detective, and in order to do that, she’d need to “get out more,” or “step out of her comfort zone.”
Guided by a strong code of upholding the original law and a code of justice, Nora would always strive to remain on the right side of the law and it’d take a lot to change that, even if the world were to descend into chaos, she’d try to maintain a sense of normalcy and prevent others from losing their way.
Appearance
Nora Whitlock is a woman of above-average build, leaning more muscular from her police fitness training, who stands at roughly 5’5”. She has fair skin, dark brown hair, and two different eye colors as she was born with a genetic condition called complete heterochromia which has given her both a light blue eye color for the left, and a hazel colour for the right. Due to her being self-conscious about her own looks, she tries her best to keep herself tidy and presentable.
Background
Childhood
Nora Whitlock was born on the 15th of October, 1971 in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California to Felix and Emma Whitlock. Due to her parents having their own business in finance and consulting, she had a very stable and comparatively upper-class life as her parents wanted to give her every opportunity to succeed in life, as they struggled before opening their business and they wanted her to have opportunities that they didn’t have.
As a child, Nora was described as an overwhelmingly kind individual and a story that her parents would constantly re-tell over dinners is that one day, there was a kid who had lost their toys in the water on the beach, and Nora jumped in, with only a little experience with swimming and managed to grab it before it got taken by the tide.
Her self-consciousness began to develop through middle school when she was commonly bullied for her genetic condition, heterochromia, and the children were very cruel back then, always making fun of people who were “different” in any way, even if that difference was something completely out of their control. She would be pushed around, called “split-eye” or “witch eyes”, and that continued on for months until another girl from her class, Zoey Dexter, pushed back for her and fought off the bullies as they were pushing her around like they always did. They, from that day forward, became good friends and always spent time together during breaks or during class. The rest of her years in middle school went off, relatively, without a hitch as she was, described by her teachers, as “particularly bright-eyed” and “intuitive beyond her years.”
High School Years
Nora Whitlock really began to find her dream and spark during her high school years when they began discussing future pathways and career pathways. Her own moral compass and sense of justice pushed her towards law enforcement, and more specifically, the dream of one day becoming a detective. She did a variety of technology and communication-related classes which began to push her out of her “shell” and began to motivate her to escape from her comfort zone.
In her technology class, she was sat next to someone who would eventually become her friend as she’d help Nora study the material in class and get better at it, because Harley Brooks was perfect in that class in almost every way, certainly much more than Nora ever could be. During their studies on the school computers during breaktime, Nora even introduced Harley to her other friend, Zoey, and throughout their final high school years became a tight-knit group until they eventually graduated and moved into their own pathways.
At home, she began to do hobbies around the house to help hone her spark and thirst for knowledge which was very strong at the time, and so alongside his business of finance, Felix Whitlock, her father, also dabbled in mechanics and carpentry by building a lot of the furniture that went around the house and by working on his own dream car which was a Buick GNX.
Police & University Learning
To become a detective in the City of Los Angeles, California, you need to have a pretty impressive history so through UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), she was granted to do a difficult dual-course in both forensic sciences, with sponsorship by the LAPD to also begin her basic police training through the UCLA-LAPD Personnel & Training Division.
She had to go through the fitness, gun and enforcement training through the nearby academy for four of the seven days per week, and then studying forensic sciences for the other three. Needless to say, she didn’t have much time for herself as she also had to study at night. She did manage to make friends who would sometimes study with her during this time, and it helped her further develop her unrefined communication skills that she had only started to develop through school. After three years of this stressful full-time and without a doubt gruelling study/work regime, she managed to graduate with the Class of 1992 at UCLA and also be given the offer of becoming a rookie police officer with the LAPD for the Pacific Area. Her parents, firstly though, wanted to celebrate her arduous journey through this by giving her, with money that they saved through their successful financial business, a chance for a first-class ticket through the Silver Meridian.
The Silver Meridian
She wasn’t given much luxury throughout her childhood, usually she actually wanted to stray away from it and her parents were huge when it came to saving their money and they put those teachings onto Nora during her formative years, to help her with safe budgeting and saving for when she gets older and lives by herself. This was the exception, and her parents insisted despite Nora’s objections, that she had earned this through her four years of studying and her graduation. “You deserve a break before starting your job,” they said to her as they quickly shifted the first-class ticket into her hands.
