Personality
Preferring to go by Rem, the young man usually kept to himself. The idea of walking up and starting a conversation with a stranger absolutely foreign to him as he was almost completely disinterested in what other people had going on unless sharing common interest. Keeping a mostly blank, maybe even tired expression outside of his faked at work persona most times and even that wasn't always terribly convincing. Playfully teased at times by his aunt for his disinterest in socializing.
On the other hand, he cared way more about what others thought about himself then he would like to admit. Easily embarrassed or overwhelmed in certain situations. Despite this he is incredibly warm, and understanding with a heavy lean towards wanting to, 'do the right thing'.
Rem would defend himself and anyone he cared about in need if facing violence, the thought of hurting another person never crossing his mind until the past month as he prepared himself for what he might have to do to survive. Generally trying to deescalate any hostilities, he would likely run away if alone and capable.
Appearance
Not too tall standing at around 5 feet 6 inches with bright blonde hair and big brown eyes. Rem was built like a tooth pick, having always struggled to put on weight.
Notable Skills
Rem has always had a passion for music, picking up and putting down a number of instruments over the years, his bass guitar being his favorite to play. He also does talented needlework, starting off crocheting plushies and blankets as a teen, the hobby continuing to grow as he branched out making alterations and maintaining his favorite clothing in school.
Background
Rem was born in Watertown New York, his father stationed there at Fort Drum. The young parents to be quickly getting married, and almost as quickly getting divorced in under two years. Rem's father completely exiting the picture wanting nothing more to do with his ex wife or son as he quickly moved on with his life. This left Rem with little to no memories of the man besides the hate filled stories shared by his mother. His mother then moving the pair to Lake Placid to move in with his aging grandparents. Over the years Rem watched his mother struggle with alcoholism, constantly trying to help her and encourage her when it came to drinking less.
Unfortunately at the age of fifteen, Rem's mother had an accident passing away. His aunt whom he had always been particularly close with that lived down state in Long Island immediately stepping up to take in the young boy as his grand parents were getting up there in age.
The following years were a rollercoaster as he dealt with the grief of losing his mother, his aunt and uncle doing everything they could to get him the help he needed and make things easier for him. With no child of their own he became their sole focus, supporting all of his interests and celebrating any of his successes.
Now twenty years old, he still lives on Long Island with the duo, unable to afford living on his own in that area and unwilling to move away from them. Rem has settled on working as an apprentice at a local tailoring shop on the main strip. He thought this would lead to lots of time on his own working on clothes but it has instead led to him sitting at a cash register most days.
The entire month of February was chaos on Long Island, the reports and rumors of the stuff going on in New York City were almost unbelievable if there had not been small incidents breaking out here as well. Wild speculations circulated the community as everyone boarded and locked up their homes. The family watching in horror as some of their neighbors got into violent brawls in the road just outside their home at times. Initially convinced they could ride this out, his uncle heard rumors of people fleeing to Braddock Island for safety. And with that the family of three packed as many supplies as they could and made their way for the marina. During the escape how ever, there was an incident as they tried to take off, a mob of enraged people getting ahold of Rem's uncle and beating him to death as he and his aunt screamed on from the boat. In shock Rem drove him and his aunt away from the situation.
Still reeling over their loss, the two continued on towards Braddock Island. Rem now trying to support his now broken aunt after the loss of her husband.
