Personality

Lowri is often told she is as quiet as a mouse, which is a descriptor she would not disagree with. She is quite nervous, jumping at nearby vibrations and ever aware she'd never hear someone sneaking up on her. In her rare moments of energy, Lowri can be quite crafty and mischievous, happily pulling pranks on her friends. She is never a person to speak, or sign, up in a crowded room, and will prefer to just blend into the background and observe from a distance. Lowri tries to be as positive as she can, for others sake if no one else. She often smiles and will try her best to make others feel welcome, even if she not the most gregarious person. She is quite witty, and is relatively observant. She will not speak unless absolutely necessary, knowing that her lack of hearing will likely make it unintelligible. She's resigned herself to irrelevance and solitude, and will find some comfort simply watching others laugh at a joke, even if she cannot hear it herself. Despite this, she has a fear of being alone, literally and metaphorically. Lowri was not ignorant to the dangers of a pre-apocalypse world, and not naive about a post-apocalyptic one. She's willing to take on the undead but is fully aware of the disadvantage she is placed at. With other people, if pushed, Lowri will do what is absolutely necessary, if she can bring herself to it. Otherwise, she would prefer to run.

Appearance

Lowri stands at a lean 5'5. She has long, dark red hair that is often tied up or tied into a braid. She has light green eyes and pale skin. Light freckles dot her face, especially in the summer. She often wears a bandana and a dark t-shirt, a hangover from her teenage music taste. Otherwise, she prefers to wear brighter colours, taking pleasure in doing so.

Background

Lowri Phipps was born to Martin and Ruth Phipps on the 28th February 1971. Martin was the owner of a successful commercial insurance company in Chicago, Illinois. The family, while not obscenely rich, enjoyed a very comfortable lifestyle, often vacationing abroad and taking extended trips around the country. The young Lowri was privately tutored and spent much of her time with her parents on their travels. While she was not ignored or abandoned by her parents, they were not afraid to leave Lowri with sitters while they went on their own excursions, leaving her free reign of the home, supervised by a responsible adult. The education Lowri was afforded gave her a rich knowledge in a variety of backgrounds. She particularly loved history and music, learning to play Guitar when she was 9 years old. As Lowri entered high school, she saw first hand the drawbacks of her upbringing. Her peers were well adjusted, social people, while her company was usually kept with parents, tutors, or babysitters. She eventually found friends with some of the more alternate crowd, listening to rock and metal music while trading her acoustic guitar for an electric. She began to dress as such, to the slight embarrassment of her parents who were very sensitive to neighborhood gossip. High school saw Lowri find a new passion in "Industrial Arts", a name she found pretentious. She learned woodwork and metalwork, her nimble fingers affording her a certain advantage. Lowri's 15th Birthday was to be spent in New York, a luxurious trip with her parents. They began the drive from Chicago, Martin driving. Lowri wasn't sure what happened. She was asleep and as she opened her eyes, she saw the wreck. From this day, Lowri has been deaf, her thoughts the only sound for company. The much locally publicized passing of her parents meant she was placed into the adoption system. Her parents will stated she was not to be placed near her family home, due to fears she could be used as a bargaining chip for criminals. Lowri's quality of life seriously declined, with no access to her parents wealth and in a deprived area, Louisville was to be her new home. The loss of her hearing particularly affected Lowri, her loss of one of her biggest passions, music, was a huge blow. Music formed part of her personality, it was a skill that she was proud of and made her who she was. In her own eyes at least. Dealing with the disability was hard, and Lowri was slow to adapt. Partly through the difficulty, and partly through sheer apathy. She began lessons to learn ASL, but often missed lessons and didn't pay as much attention as she should've. She was particularly close with one worker in her home. They would often play guitar while Lowri placed her hand on the body, letting her feel the vibrations of the notes. It was a small reprieve for the struggling teenager. Eventually, Lowri turned 18 and aged out of the system, and received her inheritance. The money had grown steadily in the hands of a trust, and was now a small fortune. Lowri moved back to Chicago, selling her childhood home as she felt it was too big for one person. She paid for a private tutor to properly teach her ASL, rather than the small bits and pieces she picked up a few years prior, and ensured her money was properly held with an advisor. Even though she eventually learned ASL, she sometimes would still prefer to write messages to people on paper, and is usually prepared to do this anyway. Lowri may be set for life, but still, nothing quite filled what was now missing from Lowri's life. She would keep a quiet eyes on the news, but preferred to keep herself away from the stories that would get her down. As her 21st Birthday approached, Lowri heard of the Silver Meridian, deciding to do a rare splash of cash, she paid for a first class ticket. 20 year old Lowri flew to California, with the intention of visiting the one destination she never got round to, New York.
