Background

Kai grew up in the United Kingdom. His childhood was a good one. He had 2 loving parents who were very supportive. Kai loved being outdoors with his friends when he wasn't in school, but was equally happy to spend time at home with his parents. Kai's dad liked to teach him about electronics and anything DIY related. Kai and his father built an engine together when Kai was 10 years old. Despite his father's influence to encourage Kai into engineering, Kai found a love for the gym when he was 16 years old, and aspired to be like Arnold Shwarzenegger from Pumping Iron (1977). Kai achieved a physical education certificate at college in 1981. Over the following years, Kai became a successful power lifter and featured on several Aerobics Exercise VHS tapes. Even working alongside Mr Motivator for a summer special. However, when the 80's (workout at home boom) slowed down, Kai found it difficult to get any other TV/VHS appearances, and fell into a repetitive routine of a personal trainer. He began to feel bored and empty with the lifestyle he had built for himself. Although Kai was relatively successful, he often felt unfulfilled and was worried that he had undiscovered talents going to waste. In January 1989 Kai's mother passed away from lung cancer. Kai made the decision to leave the gym world behind, along with the career he had made for himself, and moved back home to reconnect with his Father and grieve their loss together. During that year of reconnection, Kai realised that he still had a passion for learning Electronics alongside his father, and looked towards pursuing a career in engineering. Following his Father's advice, Kai attended an engineering event in the UK. It was an event where people from all around the world would come together to share innovations, sell company ideas, look for sponsors, and offer potential job opportunities. Kai found himself having a lengthy conversation with one representative at the Lectromax Manufacturing booth. Lectromax Manufacturing, based in Riverside Kentucky, was looking to expand their services to the UK market and saw the engineering event as a way to network for potential clients. Kai could sense an opportunity and made an offer. Kai offered to work for Lectromax as a sponsored apprentice. After finishing his apprenticeship, Kai would return to the UK as a representative of Lectromax and would be the best person to run the first UK Lectromax Manufacturing building. Kai knew that he had crucial network connections through his Father, that would guarantee a successful and prosperous start up in the UK for Lectromax, and used that as leverage. Lectromax Manufacturing agreed to give Kai a sponsored apprenticeship. In December 1989 Kai said farewell to his Father and pursued his new career working as a electrical engineering apprentice at Lectromax Manufacturing in Riverside Kentucky. Kai had only been working for Lectromax for around 4-6 weeks before he received a phone call that his Father had been involved in a tragic accident. Kai's Father had been sent out on an emergency call to look at one of the generators that had stopped working during the 1990 January 25th UK Burns Day Storm. Kai's Father attempted to fix a generator in 107mph winds and was blown over, he landed on his head. He was found dead the next day at the site where he had fallen over. The coroner report stated that cause of death was a brain bleed. Being an only child and having no other family to turn to, Kai felt he had no reason to stay in the UK anymore. Kai returned to the UK briefly to have his father cremated and scattered the ashes. He then caught the next flight back to Kentucky to continue his work for Lectromax. Kai kept to himself and worked hard in his apprenticeship. He became close friends with a colleague who was Christian and learned how to find solace through religion. He met a nice girl at church and they got married in Summer 1992. In January 1993 Kai's wife told him that she was pregnant. They were both overjoyed and Kai had finally found his forever home in Riverside Kentucky. It was supposed to be his happily ever after..... March 9th 1993 Kai was out in the woods collecting logs to build a crib. He heard pounding... and a rift appeared next to him. A single undead had wondered through the rift and started attacking Kai. Without too much effort, Kai was able to keep the undead away and pushed it over. Kai had watched enough zombie movies to understand that this was some kind of zombie invasion and stomped on the zombie until it was dead. Kai saw more rifts opening, with lots more undead coming through. Realising the seriousness of the situation Kai jumped in his truck and drove straight back home... but it was too late... his wife had been torn to shreds. What was left of her, was all over the porch. Kai drove far away and slept in his car. A few days later, he heard a radio transmission about a mall...
