Personality
Jey is generally a calm and observant person. This trait comes from his occupation. He worked years as a bartender and that made him a good judge of a character . He always listens before speaking. He reads the stranger and talks accordingly but that doesn’t mean he is a silent type of a guy. He actually talks a lot but only when he knows that he is safe.
He would describe himself as practical or a survivor rather than heroic one. Jey usually tries to negotiate, de-escalate the situations with his talking skills. However, he understands that the world has become far more dangerous than before so he is always ready if he knows things are gonna get messy. If violence becomes unavoidable, he knows what to do.
Around people he trusts he can be relaxed and even sarcastic. He often uses humor when the mood is stressful and tense. Around strangers he remains cautious until he knows their intentions. In summary Jey is all about survival, making drinks, speaking skills and guns.
Appearance
Jey is around 184 cm tall. He is caucasian male. His eyes are dark brown. He has a lean fit body. He is slightly nearsighted so he wears prescription glasses sometimes. He has long brown, almost black hair. His expression is mostly disinterested, like a poker face. He reads the mood around and changes his expression accordingly. He has a small scar under his right eye from childhood. He has no tattoos, but he has 2 piercings in his right ear. He is a type of guy that wears what is comfortable for him. He doesn't care how his outfit looks, but his style is important for him.
Background
Jey Zenith was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1961. He grew up in a working-class family where things were usually simple. He had decent parents. Despite being a single child, he was never a spoiled kid, just a little quiet and distant. His father worked as a mechanic and often brought Jey along to garages and repair shops when he was young. Father wasn’t forcing him to learn his profession, but he was just trying to teach some useful things to his son. His mother worked long hours at a hospital front desk. Because both of his parents worked a lot, Jey spent much of his teenage years outside the house, learning how to deal with people rather than focusing much on school.
As a teenager he was around a lot of different kinds of people. He hangs out with his father a lot. Mechanics, hunters, truck drivers, and regulars in local bars all became familiar to him. From those people that he met, he learned the basics of firearms the same way many people in that part of the country did: hunting trips, shooting ranges etc.. He never considered military or law enforcement because that wasn’t his thing. He wasn’t someone who was against the law but still he always had some interest in dark business.
In his early twenties Jey started working in bars because he liked the idea of creating new networks and he also like to talk with people and understand them and what they think. At first it was simple work: cleaning glasses, carrying crates, helping the bartender. Eventually he became a bartender himself. The job suited him well. Jey was good at talking to people and even better at listening. Working behind the bar introduced him to all kinds of characters, even the bad ones, and he liked to meet all those people.
Over the years he developed connections with people involved in small underground trades. Nothing big but mostly helping people find things that were difficult to get through normal channels. Sometimes tools, sometimes spare parts, and occasionally firearms. Jey himself wasn’t someone who had knowledge about guns, but by being around collectors, veterans, and dealers he learned how to identify, maintain, and safely handle many different types of weapons with time. Most of this knowledge came from observation and experience rather than formal training.
About a year before the events of 1993, Jey moved to Knox County, Kentucky. He took this decision just to put some distance between him and his family cause his family was a decent, good people and they have known like that in their neighbourhood and Jey didn’t want to give them a bad reputation as he kept making a better reputation in illegal trade. He told most people he was just looking for a quieter place to live and work. Louisville had enough bars looking for experienced staff, and he managed to find work fairly quickly as a bartender thanks to his experience and connections. Knox County felt calmer than the cities he had lived in before, and for a while things were relatively normal. Afterall, he actually likes to work as a bartender. He liked doing some illegal trade in the background was something that he liked more than anything. So with older connections from Dayton, he started to build a new network in his new bar. Of course his new boss was also doing these things but he couldn’t trust someone new in a short time. But as time passed he quickly adapted himself here.
When the strange things on March 9th, Jey was doing a late shift at his lovely bar. At first he thought it was thunder, but as he looked out of the windows, reactions of people outside quickly made it clear that something wrong was happening. People were shouting about some kind of lights around and things appearing out of nowhere. Panic spread quickly through the streets. It was the first time that he heard about the rifts.
Jey reacted very calmly and took it seriously. He gathered some supplies from the bar’s storage room and left before things became even more chaotic. His first thing to do, to understand the situations before acting. He called his parents and they were okay at that moment. But as things get more chaotic globally, he couldn’t hear about them. He cares for his family and believes that they can handle this. He decided to survive outside all by himself, until he found people that he could trust.
