Background
Luther was born an only child in a rural town in West Virginia. He was raised quite religiously, and many of his later decisions in life were rooted in this influence. In his younger years, he was a very empathetic boy who regularly attended church club and had many friends. He had a best friend with whom he often went camping, but during one hiking trip, his friend fell off a cliff and broke several ribs. His friend blamed Luther for the accident, which shattered their friendship and sparked Luther's distrust of human connections. Before the outbreak, he worked as a lumberjack in his family’s business and was a skilled outdoorsman. His mother died of cancer when he was 5 years old, and this trauma led him to live in isolation. When the outbreak hit, he didn’t even notice for a few months until one winter night, he was woken up by a group of survivors seeking refuge in his cabin. He reluctantly welcomed them in, and they told him about the outbreak and a small island south of New York that they were heading to. Over the next few days, they convinced him that the place would be overrun by infected in a year or two, so his best chance for survival was to go with them. In the end, he decided to go with them, but over the course of their journey, they lost more and more of their group until he was alone again. Despite this, he was determined to finish the journey in their spirit.
