Burt is a very reserved man and when speaking can appear very blunt and monotonous. He is always focused and wants things to get done, in the most efficient way. In all regards Burt is a simple "words are being kept or no deal" guy but he can analyse situations and circumstances and understands when adjustments are justified. While he is religious he aint a fanatic. Yet his life is based on the very foundation of gods words and the 10 commandments. Burt isnt the sentimental type but he has a special heart for the broken and forgotten people of society and despises any form of politicians, no matter how small their position is. On the other hand after alll he has been through Burt can appear very cold, brutal. and dull to other people. While he is not violent or seeking quarrels, he is alltime ready to do what must be done.
Nowdays Burt has gained a bit of weight, like a cozy Grandpa but he aint overweight. The most iconic feature about him is his thick mustache, which he refers to as authority strife. His hair is a mix of grey and brown dwindeling hair while his wrinkled face and skin let him look older than he is.
Burt was born just a few years after World War II and witnessed and enjoyed the thriving age of america. His father was one of the many soldiers that fought in this war which influenced Burt heavly about duty and later joining the military himself. But before Burt joined the military he had a rather ordinary childhood. He grew up around Muldraugh and was a kinda hothead in his childhood that often got hmself into trouble. From his home and especialy father he learned never to let injustice unpunished or ignore the cry for help of those in need. On the other hand his father barely showed any emotions due to his experiences in WWII and he was very strict when it came to raising Burt which often resulted in physical punishment when Burt was very young. Even a year before he graduated highschool he had made up his mind about joining the military. The US were already very long involved in the vietnam war and the propaganda was just rolling. As many young boys did Burt saw it as his duty to join and defend the american people. His father was not very happy with this foolish and naive world view and Burt had a big argument and crashout with him before angry leaving his home. Than Burt joined the US Marines and shortly after his training at the age of 19 he was sent to into vietnam and fought there from 1969 to 71. What he expierenced in this time ultimately changed him. He learned many hard and harsh lessons and truths. He lost many friends and returned a bit broken but not done. Stll one of his greatest regrets was that his father died during his absence and Burt never could set things right with him. Yet the only thing he ever was capable of doing afterwards was to protect and he took a job at the Muldraugh sheriffs department where he served for nearly 20 years as a deputy. In this time he also had found his wife and had a family of three children with her. Unfortunately the happyness of the marriage didnt last long. Burt never really faced the problems and mostly mental health issues that he brought back from vietnam. One of the things were his sleepless nights or even days. Never could he fully fall to sleep or rest more than two hours because he feared an ambush at any second. Losing so much friends Burt also adapted kind of an abandon issue, making it either hard to trust people or having a hard time letting people he liked go. When he sat still for to long he had huge concentration problem so he had to do something most of the time or he got very aggressive. Those were the bigger problems he had. He wasnt the man his father was. He was not as good as he was and ultimately failed his marriage. His wife divorced him and took his kids leaving him for good. He never even tryed to get his children back or knows where his wife now lifes. This wasnt because he didnt love them but he knew it was for the better to not interfere with their lives anymore. It was just another lost battle for him but the war called life wasnt over yet. To work was the only thing that kept him sane but at some point the department had to recognize the problems of Burt and let him go. So he eventually took jobs as a small security guard and ended up in one of Louisvilles malls a few years before those strange Rifts appeared - the MegaCavern Mall. It was in his mall, or rather above the mall on the parking lot where he had shift in the fee booth , when he first hand encountered those things that came out of the Rifts. Those creatures attacked shoppers and Burt first tryed to handle them like normal people. But his instincts and dull personality quickly let him realize that there was no point in treating those things as humans. He was a bit out of shape but he always remembered his military and police training in combination with his brute strenght. At least it bought him time so the people could escape but he didnt know how to fight those things. They bit him on many occassions before he figured out that a headhsot was the best way to bring them down. News of the strange Rifts spread fast but probably as every other human Burt had no idea what the hell was going on. He than joined a small group of USMC veterans that tryed to evacuate people to the countryside before he got separated from them and now finds himself in another fight. The only thing Burt ever truly was good at - fight and protect the people.
