Though sometimes she can be irritable and exhausted due to episodic pain which leads to moments of frustration that she feels guilty about afterwards. She has a bad tendency of overworking herself as a way to prove herself to others. Despite her flaws she attempts to remain resilient. Although not one to mindlessly jump into violence she will defend herself and anyone she cares about if need be.
Appearance
Nelly stands at 5'5, A woman with wavy blonde hair and features on the softer side. Though her appearance is visibly marked by healed 2nd and 3rd degree burn scars along her left side, it is uneven with various raised scarring areas and goes into numerous patches and splotches from her face down her body. Her left eyebrow and eyelashes are completely missing, unable to regrow back on scar tissue and her left eye suffers from lasting damage. She suffers with light sensitivity and poor vision in her left eye, visibly asymmetric. This usually leads her to often tilt her head slightly to the side or wear protective glasses. She tries to dress modestly and comfortably despite her poor ability to regulate her body temperature because of her scars.
Background
Nelly Björk was born on the 12th of January 1970 to her Swedish immigrant parents. They lived right outside of Phoenix. Her father Hugo was a baker by trade, He made sure Nelly learned patience and consistency growing up. Her mother despite being a very busy woman balanced the household out. Their home was modest but a very loving one which is what mattered most to Nelly. She grew up learning Swedish and English, her parents not letting her forget where they came from.
As a child Nelly was very thoughtful, She would prefer to cooperate than to compete with her classmates. She did well in her school years through her effort. She wanted to make her parents truly proud of her, Although her grades were usually average her teachers did often note her hard work ethic. She was a very approachable and friendly girl, easily fitting into group settings and forming friendships with others around her age. She often thrived when she felt useful to people, often helping classmates or assisting her teachers and began to be known as a person that others could reply on.
Her college life was challenging for her but it was also really fulfilling. She balanced studying and doing part time work to keep herself afloat, learning to manage to live independently. Though there were moments where she was overwhelmed the friends she made helped her keep going strong. She'd always be indebted to them for all of their help even if their friendships drifted apart. After two years she completed her associate's degree, graduating as a fully independent woman. After graduation she ended up moving into the heart of Phoenix, full of eagerness to put her education and newly founded degree to use and begin building a new path in life of her own.
With her persistence she ended up finding true joy in her new career when she began working at a preschool. A setting that felt almost perfectly suited to her gentle nature. She was patient and attentive, able to calm down any upset child and gained their trust. She felt blessed for being able to have her career going so well for her so she began pushing herself even further, She'd go the extra mile, using money out of her own check to buy supplies for the class as the preschool was underfunded like most others in the area. Although she couldn't keep up this habit forever, about a year she started her career she ended up needing to get a second job to pay for her living expenses.
It was just after news years, Officially 1991 Nelly began working at a Zumeo food processing factory on the weekends where safety protocols were poorly enforced and trainings were rushed. She was placed into hazardous conditions without any proper qualifications or protective gear. An accident caused by the company's negligence of their machinery and material processes resulted in catastrophic burns to Nelly's left side. It was an agonizing experience which was followed by weeks of hospitalization and multiple surgeries and the constant risk of infection. Her left eye had sustained permanent damage which left her in the long term with impaired vision in her left eye.
The Zumeo corporation, a very large and wealthy group quickly intervened and ended up pressuring Nelly into signing a strict NDA in exchange for a large settlement, sweeping the entire incident under the rug and keeping the sleezy group away from turmoil. Though the money covered her medical care and let her survive financially without needing to work it did nothing to ease the emotional toll on her. Her recovery took nearly a year marked by numerous surgeries, skin grafts, physical therapy and counselling. Nelly was in a tough spot for a while during her recovery but she slowly began to piece herself back together with the help of the ones she loved. She was able to regain her independence and her confidence after time, even though her scars both physical and emotional remained she was her own woman and dealt with everything on a day to day basis.
She still struggled time to time like anyone would but it wouldn't stop her from trying to keep positive. She decided not to go back to work but to instead work on herself and her hobbies. She was well set with the settlement she got even if it left a bad taste in her mouth. She'd visit her family often and spend time learning how to bake all different kinds of pastries with her father. As the time past she grew eager for new experiences.
By early 1993s her hunger grew ravenous for the taste of adventure. She ended up hearing about The Silver Meridian and was dead set on that it would only be her first taste of true adventure. She got a first class ticket months in advance, splurging heavily on the ticket out of her settlement money but decided she'd either go big or go home. Nelly was certain she was going to make the most out of her trip, She had a whole bucket list of what she wanted to eventually check off and this was just one thing on the list. Eventually boarding the train at LA on the 3rd of March.
