A few years ago, Lilith would have been an outwardly brash woman who was in a deep stage of grief she wasn't able to get over. But after a couple years of hard living, and the past 4-5 months before the end of the world reconnecting with her best friend, she's tapered down. She still has fits of grief or sudden moodswings from some sort of undiagnosed mental illness, but her first impressions have certainly gotten better.
Lilith is the kind of person who tries to keep most relationships surface level. Maybe it's doing drugs together, maybe it's talking about music and keeping it to a strict jam session. Maybe it's clearing out a building and getting supplies. She can have a sharp tongue to people she finds herself grinding against too hard, but otherwise doesn't want to waste her energy on assholes.
In a good mood, she's an excitable person who can quickly get into something. She's started no less than 6 bands throughout the last five years, and doesn't let simple failures push her down too easily.
Appearance
Lilith is a scrawny woman, standing at 5'8" who is adapting to the newly destroyed world that the rifts and zombies have caused. She's got long, steel-blue hair that she tries to still keep up with, even months after the end of the world. She has a long sleeve of tattoos across her arms of random little assortment of items, sayings, band symbols, and so on.
She has high cheekbones and a sharp jawline, owing to her being underweight. When she can, she'll throw on some basic lipstick and eyeshadow, finding it a comfort to repeat some old motions and the small feeling of superiority behind being 'better put together' than others.
Background
Lilith Darkborn is the name that came from a grieving thirteen year old who was convinced she had to remake herself. Darla Daycourt did not have an easy life. This started in her early years when her biological father walked out on her family when she was only 5 years old. Her mother was left with the load of raising two children, Darla & Nathan- a five & two year old. She was forced to effectively take three separate jobs, & Darla was put in a position where she then had to take care of her little brother, Nathan. She was never purposefully left to watch over him, after all she was so young. But... People get left with one another, so she had to learn how to make her & his own sandwiches, how to keep him entertained, & neglect her own childhood.
Things started looking better whenever her Mother dated a new guy who was happy to help with children. He even encouraged Darla to take up gymnastics! She'd gotten rather excited about the extracurricular, & even made a friend. She'd been the one to talk to the quiet, reserved girl at practice- Elaine. Caring for her the way she felt she cared for her brother at first, the two got along & started to hang out more. Time passed, & Darla was having a better life. She had even found out about her basically-Dad's intention to marry her mother & actually become her Dad!
Nothing stays easy forever. Goodness isn't owed to anyone.
She had thought he was running late at first. Elaine stuck around with her, as they were also her ride home. An hour passed, & the two chatted and chatted until doubt grew in her heart like vines up a wall. It was an hour & a half after pickup when the coach went home. That's around the time Darla asked Elaine if something might've happened to them.
It took until an hour past sundown for the two girls to get picked up by Darla's mother, who had awful news about a car accident.
The next few years was a blur, & became a deep time of depressing phases. Every tween & teen goes through a dark era of their life, but Darla- well, now Lilith's, was fueled by abandonment issues & an isolation she helped create. Elaine stuck around, hoping to help out her best friend.
It wasn't until Lilith's 13th birthday when she was brought to a live concert, when she began to feel better. She had been brought to see one of her favorite bands who was playing as the opener of a show. She had lit up like she hadn't in the last two years, & her mother's credit card paid for a backstage pass. Lilith was too obsessed with getting autographs from her band, that she didn't realize her Mother was making friends with the lead guitarist of the headliner.
It was a couple months later when her Mother introduced her to Colt, her new boyfriend. The lead guitarist of the headliner Lilith hadn't even gone to seen. Being a moody child, she brushed it off & tried to keep distance. But who better was there to connect to the depressed, edgy teen than the lead guitarist of a punk rock band?
Lilith got a new father figure who understood the pain she was going through & treated it more than a phase. She felt seen for the first time in a while, and began to follow behind a lot of his hobbies. Guitar, metalworking, writing songs... Partying. Though what she was going through now wasn't anything too inappropriate. No, that happened when things went back to being bad.
Colt was sick. Deathly so, & apparently had been for some time. No one had figured it out until recently. Lilith had to watch yet another person, cruelly & quickly ripped from her life. There was some solace in being able to say goodbye, though.
In her senior year of high school, Lilith began to seriously act out & double down into the 'edgy' phase she had as a teen, & turn it instead into a burnout-rebellion. She got close to one of Colt's older roadies, Mickey. (someone Colt would have kept away from Lilith, but now could no longer do.)
Mickey ran a tattoo shop & was happy to feed Lilith's rebellion. Filling up her arms with random assortments of whatever the 17 year old wanted to get that day. He invited her to harder parties, & even supported her dropping out of highschool, with the offer of a job at the tattoo shop.
Lilith did exactly that. She went into an apprenticeship, got into more fights with her Mother & distanced herself even further from her best friend, Elaine.
Soon enough, Mickey got Lilith involved in running drugs, & it only took a couple of years before she got busted for it.
Somewhat estranged from her family, getting arrested ended up being... Not awful for familial relations. In the time before her hearing, she was on house arrest & was able to stay with her Mother & Elaine. Shortly after, the rifts began to appear.
There was a desperate move for her Mother, Brother, & Elaine to get out of NYC by boat. Though along the way, she was separated from her Mother & Brother, & only got out with Elaine. The two have since been nomadic, trying to find a stable place to hunker down.
