Personality

Whilst growing up Telana most certainly wasn't afraid to have some fun in the form of mischief or trying new things. Although her involvement with drugs and crime had cast a rift with her and her family, she would still be viewed as a kind soul, one who always did have a strong sense of community spirit. She never intentionally hurt people she felt hadn't wronged her or those she cared about, and would usually be by their side should trouble start. After the bad relationship her whole personality changed dramatically. She realised that she hadn't been down the right path and that her Parents wouldn't be proud of her if she continued. As such, the party girl behaviour stopped almost completely. The drinking was cut down, the drugs were almost completely stopped as did the pranks, and save for a few occasions, the fighting stopped as well. Now, although she remained one to have a laugh and a kind smile, she was serious, more responsible and dependable. Thanks to her time as an NCO in the Army, she learnt valuable lessons in discipline, teamwork and leading. With the remnants of PWRR looking to her for guidance, Telana has to keep her grief to one side and show people why she earnt her Sergeant's stripes. In terms of violence, Telana was never one to back down from it when she viewed it necessary. Her time in the Army taught her the boon of controlled aggression. Whilst she prefers de-escalation, and she isn't the type to blow her fuse at an insult or two, she's no stranger to violence and knows what it means to take a life and that sometimes, it may be the only path forwards to protect yourself and those who need protecting.

Appearance

Telana stands at 5'10 (178cm), with fair skin, brown hair and Hazel eyes. Her face remains clear of scarring, however the bags underneath her eyes give her a constant look of tiredness and exhaustion, even before the world had fallen apart, and now just even more so. Thanks to her troublesome nature, Telana was always quite fit. Despite being slightly underweight for almost the entirety of her life, she had a fair bit of strength before she became ill. Nowadays, she's struggling with the muscle weakness, pushing herself to her limits. It was probably clear to most everyone that she probably wasn't a local before she even had a chance to speak, but her Northern British accent and her habit to call everyone 'Pet' made it very clear that she was a long way from home.

Background

Born in Hull, England to Anthea and Peter Spiner, Telana was the eldest of two and grew up in a rough working class area. Although she kept a kind heart and a community spirit, it didn’t stop her dabbling in crimes, falling into a bad crowd during her teenage years, almost constantly in trouble with the Police. Throughout her years growing up, Telana learnt how to go on with little to nothing, and how to make everything last as long as it could. Sewing classes in school and her parents encouraging further study, Telana found a natural skill in fixing up the clothes she so often tore and wrecked during her time spent up to no good. Even with no interest to pursue it as a career, she ended up with a biscuit tin, full of various sewing supplies. As she just about scraped through school, she very quickly realised she hadn’t much in the way of career prospects. Nothing really did catch her fancy, except for her Dad’s stories about his time in the Army. Interested and with nowhere to go, she signed up, becoming a Combat Medical Technician. Shortly after she got deployed to Northern Ireland, she met Lieutenant Colonel Phillip Barker, and got involved in a relationship with him. She didn’t realise at first that he was married, but when she did, she remained his Mistress. In December of ‘76, the wife of Phillip Barker, Judy, finally managed to speak to Telana regarding her and Phillip’s ongoing affair. The resulting talk resulted in the end of Telana’s relationship with him, and Telana took a long hard look at her life choices. From then on, she did her best to change, and her efforts were focused into becoming a proper Soldier, one her family could actually be proud of. In February ‘84, she was stationed in Germany for the second time. She was there for a number of years, and eventually learnt the language. It was also here that she met Sergeant Wayne Teller, her future Fiancé. After her deployment there ended, Telana and Wayne hooked up for a number of one night stands until Wayne finally took her on a date to the Café des Artistes in Paris, and they began their relationship. In '89, Wayne and Telana got married, with Wayne taking on the surname of Spiner. In '91 Telana was involved with Op Granby, providing front line medical services. With the experience she gained in Iraq, and after spending over a decade as a medic, she decided it was time for a career change, and in the latter half of '91, made a second attempt at the Platoon Sergeant's Battle Course in Brecon, this time succeeding. Due to transferring from the RAMC to Infantry, her promotion was delayed until September 1992, when the Princess of Wales Royal's Regiment (PWRR) was formed, and she became Platoon Sergeant in PWRR In a stroke of luck, her husband was Company Sergeant Major of B Company, the very company she was placed in. Whilst against official policy, the couple's professionalism and Wayne's lengthy service and willingness to stir a few favours meant no complaints were made. In November '92, Telana was borrowed, being temporarily put back into 1 Armoured Field Ambulance to deploy to Bosnia, assisting British forces in Op Grapple. She did her best, despite the restrictions put in place, to help both civilians and soldiers alike. Unfortunately, in January of '93, Telana fell ill after taking part in a dinner with community leaders and was sent home. Recovering from Trichinosis was tricky, and she found herself suffering with muscle weakness and fatigue. Her condition brought concern in regards to Telana's future as a Soldier. With 1 PWRR scheduled to go for a month-long training in BATUS, Canada near the end of February, it was decided that they would assess her condition and performance and make a decision afterwards. During the training, Telana struggled, but kept pushing on, relying on her Platoon to keep themselves from pratting about. Unfortunately, two and a half weeks in, the world was caught by surprise by the emergence of the rifts. With nearly two thousand men and women in BATUS at the time, they found themselves hit hard. With no live ammunition, the British forces found themselves ill equipped to fight the undead horde that spewed through. Despite all attempts to regroup, reorganise and secure safety, 1 PWRR was decimated. Despite Telana's best efforts, her husband died in her arms. And as she cried in grief, his body vanished from her grasp. What was left of 3rd Platoon made the decision to leave, soon learning it was a worldwide catastrophe and help was not coming. Originally aiming to go to Ottawa, the undead and lack of infrastructure put pay to those thoughts. Setback after setback meant their route took them through the state of Indiana, where they decided to detour to Fort Knox, hoping there'd be at least some friendly forces. Whilst travelling a different suggestion arose. Knox County. It wasn't far, it wasn't notable, but there was something . . . Attractive about it.
