Background

Originally from upstate Michigan, Kara's family moved to Kentucky's Knox County in 1984 for financial and employment reasons. Her father started working as a mechanical engineer and her mother worked as a pre-school teacher. Kara grew up interested in how things work, tinkering and trying to make little things, she wanted to be some kind of engineer like her father. Her hyperfixations and interests made her a bit of an outcast in school, really only having one friend, a girl named Katie who was in the school band. By the time the rifts started appearing, the Leonowicz family started to fear the worst. They wanted to at least protect their daughter, so they fortified their modest home and started preparing for the worst. Not long after, disaster struck and people came to raid their home. Kara's parents were killed, and she was left with damage to her larynx and vocal cords, resulting in a scar and a seemingly permanent hoarseness to her voice. Leaving what was left of her home behind, she eventually made her way to the Mega Cavern Mall to seek shelter and start over after losing everything she had. Her goal now isn't very clear, but she knows she wants to keep living and try to help those around her in some way.
