Background

Richard Pepper was born during the post second world war baby boom, his father was a former US marine who had fought in the Pacific theatre and his mother was a nurse. Richard was an unruly child, often prone to get into trouble. He was hard to control and his parents would often allow him to run wild in the streets at night. Despite this Richard had fairly decent grades and would go on to graduate college where he also picked up several new ideas and habits. Richard moved to New York city, became active politically and an active user of narcotics. Eventually he quit both politics and drugs and picked up a job as a salesman instead. His career was ended by the unfortunate outbreak of the zoonotic infectious disease. Richard was not much of a prepper and was greatly surprised by this dangerous outbreak. Despite his lack of preparation Richard managed to survive the apocalypse thus far by luck and some small amount of intelligence. Richard ran away from New York to avoid danger, he managed to sneak aboard a fishing vessel headed elsewhere. When the captain discovered Richard he threw him overboard, luckily they were only a short distance away from the coast of Braddock Island and Richard managed to swim the rest of the way.
