Background

Imogen was born in Madison, Indiana, and raised in a working-class family that rarely had much beyond the necessities. Her dad worked inconsistent factory & construction jobs while her mom raised Imogen and her younger brother, Kyle. Despite the monetary hardships the family faced Imogen found comfort in creating art. She packed out books with sketches. Imogen performed respectably in school, but she was known for her creative ambition rather than academics. When Imogen was in her teens, her dad found steadier work in Louisville. Imogen struggled with the move away, and missed her friends desperately. After some time, she settled back into school. Her family no longer worried so much about money and encouraged her to pursue her passion for the arts. After graduating high school, she enrolled at the University of Louisville, majoring in the fine arts. She was opinionated & creative, choosing to express her thoughts and quickly found a place among a small circle of alternative students who shared the love of art, music and opposition to authority. She had a stubborn streak, often arguing over artistic interpretation or talking herself into trouble because she didn't know when to reel herself in. Her friend group spent their evenings defacing the side of corporate buildings with graffiti and sometimes tasteful murals, attending dive bars and gigs. As well as overstaying their welcome in cafes to argue about art and politics. Wearing their disdain for authority openly, sneering at rules and shirking their absolute nature, and would often get into trouble with campus security, earning a reputation as an outspoken idealist, and sometimes persistent troublemakers... Then the end of the world hit, and all the systems they relied upon really fell apart. There wasn't enough time for Imogen to get back to her family when things fell apart, or that's what she keeps telling herself afterwards; she and a few others made their way to Cavern Mega Mall and Hotel, seeking out safety from those... Strange things happening up top. As time passed in the CMM&H, Imogen regained a passion for art and began creating pieces using whatever creative supplies they had left, and even began dabbling in making her own paints from pigments she'd collect up in the excursions to the top to forage. Imogen also trained in simple defensive combat and learned the art of how to swing a bat into a rifters dome to neutralise them. She poured herself into displays of art, books and music to pass the time within the sanctuary of the Mall, but found herself eager to explore the forever changed world beyond the caverns walls.
