Background
Emilia grew up as an only child in a troubled, multi-family home in Los Angeles. Sadly, she grew up with thin walls and listened to her parents argue routinely. Emilia luckily had someone who made it somewhat bearable, her nephew; But he was born deaf and because of financial difficulties he could never get proper speech therapy. But that never slowed him down & he constantly communicated through writing, signing & improvising. Emilia learned quickly that if she wanted to understand him, she would have to meet him halfway. What started as a handful of ASL became fluency over time.
At home food was on the table & school was being attended, but nothing was ever good enough for either parent. Emilia's grades, activities & personal life became limited and rules were strict & unquestionable. Later in life when Emilila's parents divorced; Joint custody became yet another battleground. Her mother started confiding rumors & drama with Emilia, then the father did the same. Allegations of affairs, forged signatures & backbiting became the norm with them. Emilia watched both parents become hypocrites as they broke the same rules & etiquette they enforced long ago.
As Emilia grew older, she learned that college was her best option to escape her environment. Appalachian State University had a scholarship option for former children of broken homes; Emilia wrote her story & tested her luck, but it just so happened that they had an enrollment shortage that year & shortly after, she was notified that she was accepted for the following semester. Emilia declared a major in Criminal Justice with a minor in Signals and Systems. With the Cold War in recent memory, Emilia decided to take Russian as a second language so she could utilize her minor to listen & understand Russian listening posts & radio broadcasts.
College was a welcome change for Emilia & she made a few friends named Rin & Jade. Eventually, Emilia graduated & told herself as she passed the graduation stage, alone; "C's get degrees". After graduation Emilia recalled Jade speaking about applying to the FBI and Emilia applied as well, though she never imagined that her application would be looked at. As Emilia took a few odd jobs and one HAM radio operating gig-job, she received a call from the FBI recruitment office about a scheduled interview. And not long after, Emilia lucked out on her interview & she was accepted into the BFTC course, inwhich she passed all assessment phases & received her duty station.
Emilia was mostly regulated to her cubicle & her supervisor seemed to deliberately ignore Emilia as often as he could. However, an opportunity hit Emilias' desk. An investigation inquiry involving an Ohio State Judge in within the Shawnee Tribal Jurisdiction. The inquiry involved multiple cartel corruption cases & it was an opportunity she couldn't pass up & Emilia accepted her first real field assignment.
As Emilia arrived in town, she reviewed the brief and began contacting local police agencies. First the town police chief, then the tribal police chief & then the county sheriff's office. Emilia felt genuinely proud of herself for getting these agencies on-board & the three agencies seemed eager to work with one-another. Emilia was ready to serve her arrest warrent & the agencies assembled at a staging point. As multiple police vehicles rolled in and positioned themselves infront of the Judges residence, Emilia stepped out of her vehicle & approached the front door to knock & serve the warrant. As she did, a window on the second floor above her head shattered & almost immediately, a flurry of shots rang out towards a group of officers parked outfront. And in an instant, the officers themselves opened fire upon one another and Emilia was caught right in the middle of a four way shootout. Emilia bolted & threw herself off to the side and took cover.
Screaming & gunfire flooded Emilia's senses as she laid low and silent as possible. As she laid there, gunfire & shouting slowly died down. Emilia slowly left her cover & took a look at the scene. Multiple officers on all sides lay dead & injured as muffled chatter & rushed footsteps hurried themselves through the home. Emilia came to the realization of her incredible error; Without realizing the severity of local corruption, Emilia was flooded with multiple signs that she failed to recognize. She started thinking that she was misinformed, or that her report did not contain all of the details she needed. Nevertheless, the damage was done, and so was Emilias career.
After the event; Emilia's supervisor reprimanded her harshly. And dismissal was too gentle for such a massive screw up. After assigning Emilia for every single piece of retraining he could, she was then transfered from her post and reassigned to ECHOs jurisdicition. Where shortly after, she was assigned to chaparone the ECHO intern Evie. But there was some hope for joy as Evie & Emilia were presented with tickets to to board the Silver Meridian.
