Otto Murdock
Personality
Otto is a very honest guy, who believes in old school values and he is very loyal to his own family and friends. As long as you dont cross him he would never try to fuck someone over or be an aggressive man. He neverminds to lend someone a hand, even strangers, and he is very patient. The later results mostly from his job, since owning a gas station and being in touch with customers isnt made for everyone and demands social skills. However because of the things he witnessed in Vietnam and, in his opinion, learned how the world truly works, Otto has adjusted to vigilantism. A least from time to time, because he saw to much injustice in the war or bad guys "getting away" because they had valuable information, were worth for trading or had an high rank within the US Army. On the other hand he became a strong supporter of causes and helps organisations that others would deemed criminal or bad. Even while he is a critical thinker he also still inherits US values. He sees communists as the enemy and sometimes is to stubborn and stuck in his own ways, which can make him fail to see better options.
Appearance
Otto is a slightly taller man with brown eyes. He´s around 1,92 and duo to his older age a bit of a chubby guy with a healthy belly. Still he is in good shape, for his age, which of course results from his daily work at his gas station and in the implemented autoshop. He also comes around alot on the island and hasnt completly forgotten his days in the US Army.. His hair on the other hand has long left his bald head while he has a magnificent rust red beard, which gives him either a friendly or a grumpy look. Depends on his reactions.
Notable Skills
As a result from his days in the US Army, Otto is very handy when it comes to cars and mechanics and handling stuff in general, but he´s neither a master carpenter or something like that. Is a decent shooter. After his basic training in the army and his homecoming in 1973, Otto valued the Second Amendment very much. Thus he possed some weapons and did go to shooting ranges from time to time. Also likes to fish and camp, which in combination with his basic survival training in the Army, makes him at least a bit self sustainable. He´s also a bit buffed in his age of 48 but no hercules nor super fit in stamina. He can speak english, german and french.( Nr.1 as his native language, Nr.2 duo to his mother and Nr.3 as a result of his smuggling business)
Background
Braddock Island was, is and will always be Ottos home. He was born in 1952 and had a rather ordinary childhood. His father was a american and am member of the US Army, through which he met Ottos mother in germany around 1947 and took her with him back to Braddock Island. While Otto is a true american, the german influence cant be overlooked because he already learned in his younger age to be very precise and that duty comes first. First Otto was supposed to go to college but when he turned 18 in 1970 he was drafted to the US Army and after his basic training send to Vietnam. There he served as a logistics driver and mostly didnt see frontline battle. Still sometimes it got really rough and he knows the sound of grenades and AK47´s. Twice in the war he would find himself in a bloody ambush and barely surviving it, while seeing many of other soldiers dying or worse. Around his time in Vietnam Otto started to question certain things which included the US itself and he learned that sometimes you cant rely on others to bring justice and rather make it yourself. After the US pulled ou of Vietnam in 1973, Otto returned home to Braddock Island. With his earnings from his time in the Army he took over a gasstation from the previous retiring owner which he holds until the outbreak but buying the gas station was mainly a cover up for him. He met enough people in his time as a logistic driver and weaved connections thus becoming a smuggler which of course isnt a public known fact. Some of the Braddock Police may have had clues but never any hard proof on him. For the most he is the friendly(but of course sometimes way to expensive) gas station owner from the neighbourhood. Many folks made his acquaintance duo to his job but he´s pretty well known around his hometown. He does spends money on charity often and helps in public events. Chosen people on the other hand know his vigilant side or certain people get told to go ask Otto, if he can help them with delicate problems. Even 1 or 2 police officers are in this kind of connection with him so that he can operate as an outlaw to a certain extend. Yet when first rumors about a new disease reached Braddock Island, Otto didnt believe a word. For him it was the same bullshit when the discovered AIDS or whatnot. He believed that people again exaggerate so he wasnt prepared when he found himself in a locked down area. It also gave him a bit of PTSD but also the means to act as he always does - relying on what he knows and that first hand is, getting a base of operations, which is his gas station, that he wants to reclaim.
