Build restrictions exist to keep the realism of the server, help server performance and keep building fair for everyone while still allowing creativity in player made structures.
Player made structures are limited to a 25x25 tile radius per building. Builds may include a ground floor, one additional floor and a loft. A loft is a room that is distinctively smaller than the floor its on top of and can mostly fit under a roof. Structures that are usually taller than this such as watchtowers or treehouses may bypass the height restriction.
If you wish to build larger than these restrictions you must open up a Build Approval ticket. In the ticket you should include:
Staff will then review the request and let you know whether you may go ahead with the build, you may be asked further questions.
If you're unsure about any of the new building rules or changes you're always welcome to open a ticket and ask about anything you need clarification on.
Players are expected to build reasonably for their needs. Just because the maximum size is 25x25 does not mean a solo player should be making a building of that size for personal use. Builds should reflect on how many people will be realistically using them.
Lastly no more than half of a structure may be built over water. If you want to create a dock or a bridge across a body of water you must open up a ticket and ask, they cannot be created without prior approval.
Tile tokens are Wasteland's solution to people stripping all the fun tiles out of buildings and leaving empty husks of houses in their wakes. Furniture out in the world cannot be picked up or disassembled; attempting to pick up a piece of furniture will cause you to use up a "build token", and a copy of the item will be placed in your inventory.
In this way, you can go around the world and "shop" for items to furnish your safehouses and builds. Once you pick up an item, it cannot be picked up again.
Everyone starts with 30 tile tokens, and every tile you attempt to pick up will use up one. Items that take up multiple tiles, like beds (4 tiles), will use up that amount of tiles in one go.
Tile tokens recharge slowly over time, with 6 tokens regained every 24 IRL hours. You'll have to wait for them to recharge on their own if you want more!
Collecting and disassembling furniture to level skills is not the intended use of tile tokens. There are plenty of other ways to level electrical, carpentry, and metalworking.
If you run out of tile tokens, want an actual roof placed on your base, want to swap the furniture you have for other color variants, or want to generally beautify a build with plants and decorative tiles, you will need to utilize a Build Ticket. Builders can help you put the final touches on your vision.
You are only allowed to head up one build ticket at a time. Finish your first build ticket before you open another. This includes a build for your faction; if you already have a personal build open, get someone else to head up the faction ticket!
Overall through the build ticket system players are allowed 2 personal builds and 3 workplace builds, The second personal build may only be started at least one month after the first person build is completed.
Build tickets for towns and factions are handled on a case by case basis. They have no fixed size limits as approvals are based on the scope, purpose and needs of the project being proposed. Player homes and apartments in either town or factions fall under personal builds.
Before you engage the help of Builders, you should build everything you are able to first. This includes:
Builders will only swap "like for like," meaning they will not change wall or floor types. If you have a wooden wall, it can only be swapped to other kinds of wooden walls. Brick for brick, concrete for concrete, etc. (Wallpaper walls require wood or plaster, and tile walls require plaster or stone.) Special floor tiles can be made with the correct magazines and buckets of plaster/concrete, and more wall options can be found under the WL Builds menu.
On the left are brick wall types buildable by the player; on the right are some examples of tiles they could be swapped for.
Base designs should be kept realistic to the area they are in, the abilities of those in an apocalyptic world, and the physics of Earth. There should be no impossible structures, or elaborate mansions built in the middle of the woods. Safehouses cannot block off roads, and safehouse walls should be built a tile or two back from the road to give drivers ample space.
When you build the layout of your base, be sure to include the variety of walls and floors you want. If you suddenly decide that you want an entire rear wall to be stone instead of wood, you better pick up your sledgehammer and make that happen! Builders aren't here to save you the grunt work.
If you have an unorthodox request, builders may require you to provide some RP or some special materials.
What Builders will do:
What Builders won't do:
Ultimately, builders are here to finalize a vision you have already set up. Have your room layout already created, and have the structure already built and finished to the best of your ability. If you have a very specific look in mind for your build, you can build it it singleplayer mode, or find reference pictures to help the Builders understand what you're looking for.
One of the top pictures is ready for a builder to turn it into the bottom picture. Can you guess which one?
If you're unsure what can/cannot be built or have any other build related questions, just open a ticket and ask! One of the Builders will be able to help.
You can call a Build Supervisor or the Head of Builders to your ticket if you want to contest the requirements given. The Head of Builders has final say on all matters; what they say is law.
